Aid to the Church in Need – Social Awareness Activities

Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is an international Catholic pastoral aid organization, which yearly offers financial support to more than 5,000 projects worldwide.

In 2007, under the direction of Pope Benedict XVI, Aid to the Church in Need begins to increase levels of work in the Middle East. In December 2011, Benedict XVI recognised the importance of Aid to the Church in Need’s work by elevating the charity to a Pontifical Foundation of the Catholic Church.

Involve Your Parish

There are many ways to engage your parish and join ANC in solidarity with suffering and persecuted Christians all over the world. From ordering resources, booking our speakers, starting a prayer group, or simply representing us in your community we would love to help you spread awareness of Christian persecution.

We are always happy to come and speak at events in your local community. Whether you are hosting a fundraiser, organising a novena or teaching a module to a class on social justice/charity, we are always available to support your efforts and to educate people about Christian persecution in our world.

ACN Projects and Challenges

These projects and challenges are suitable for Pope John Paul II Award social awareness activities

The Mobile Phone Challenge (for St John the Merciful Table in Lebanon)

ACN UK
JP2 Award participants could run this challenge themselves at their school, youth group, parish and could use the presentation for an assembly.

It is a way for pupils to incorporate prayer, fasting and almsgiving by being sponsored for giving up their mobile phone for one day. The ACN Mobile Phone Challenge is to raise funds for the St John the Merciful Table, a fantastic project in Lebanon that provides a hot meal to around 1,600 desperate people every day.

We hope that this Challenge allows you to reflect on Jesus’ Passion, and give you an opportunity to pray for those around the world who are discriminated again and persecuted for their faith.

Go To Mass Educational Resources

ACN UK
ACN’s educational resources stem from their Prayer campaign, #Go2Mass, in which they encouraged supporters to attend an extra Mass to offer prayers for those in need. “Go to Mass for Someone Who Can’t (#Go2Mass),” a project for schools, colleges and universities, is a nationwide initiative to promote peace and tolerance by highlighting the plight of persecuted Christians (and all people of faith) whilst teaching young people about Mass, the Eucharist and the power of prayer.
