Mary’s Meals – Social Awareness Activities

Mary’s Meals provides life-changing meals to some of the world’s poorest children every school day.

“We are a no-frills charity with a simple idea that works: by providing one good meal in a place of learning, children are drawn into the classroom where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty.

Mary’s Meals is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own child in poverty. We consist of, respect and reach out to people of all faiths and of none.

Our vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education. Working together, we believe that can be achieved in this world of plenty”.

Project: STEP BT STEP

Each year, people from all over Ireland join our Step by Step walk, raising vital funds to help feed hungry children in some of the world’s poorest communities. With Covid-19 restrictions still ongoing, this year’s walks will proceed on a reduced scale.

Organise a local walk near your home

To help you adhere to current rules and be part of the event in a way that you feel comfortable, we’re introducing the option of taking on a local walk, which you can complete nearer to your home. It’s up to you whether you do these local walks in groups or pairs, and you can choose any distance that suits those taking part.

Last year, a group of supporters in Longford town met at 6pm every night between 7 and 15 August and walked a route around the bypass together. If you’d like to follow their lead with your own local walk, we can provide t-shirts and sponsor cards to help you along your way (just let us know in the comments section of the sign-up form).
