On Thursday, 10 May, 2018 seven students from the Marist School, Sunninghill, Berkshire, England who participated in the Pope John Paul II Award through the Diocese of Derry were each presented with their Pope John Paul II Award.
7 Marist School students receive the Pope John Paul II Award
The presentation was held before pupils and teachers in the school including the Marist Sisters who had all gathered together to celebrate Mass for the Feast of the Ascension.
The 7 Award participants had completed their parish hours in the parishes of Bagshot & Camberley, St Cuthbert’s Egham, St Tarcisius, Sacred Heart, Sunningdale and St Francis of Assisi, South Ascot. In their parishes they served as Ministers of the Eucharist, Ministers of the Liturgy, helped with Children’s liturgy, assisted at Sunday Mass and Sunday school and took part in regular Offertory processions.
For their social awareness strand of the Award, the Marist School participants volunteered with the Chavoin Club for children with Down Syndrome, in a local Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care shop, ran the school ‘Telephone Box’ book exchange and volunteered in the local library.
The 7 JP2 Award participants are currently promoting the Award to year 11 students in the school and encouraging take up of the Award in the Autumn.
